Production

Finished products!

All the images placed down below show the finished products of all my platforms and what the result of my products was.  I created these by using many programs including Photoshop, publisher and word. into which allowed me to get my images and edit them or to layout how i wanted my coursework to end.

Pre-Production

Pre-production of magazine front cover

I have started to do my front cover of my magazine this will allow me to get a feel of the content i want to add inside the magazine and what i may be able to do for my double page spread.  Allowing me to have a clear mind on how this magazine is going to go and i can already piece together in my head how it will turn out allowing me to look ahead and maybe have to go back and change.  This may be the main image or even just some small features or main stories. Below i will add my production steps of what i have either added or changed allowing me to keep record on what i have done to reach this stage in my production!

Logo!

This was my first step towards my logo for the business at first i thought this would of been enough but after thinking about the business it needs some added detail to get across in more detail what it can do. I used the main colour scheme for the symbol in the back in which show up strongly and help make it stand out.  By doing this if anyone see's this on the front of a magazine or on a website etc. They will know exactly which company owns it or sponsors. I chose the symbol design because its a circle but at the same time it has it's dips but then picks back up. This shape shows a comfortable business who are prepared to reach anything to succeed no matter how bad they may be knocked down they will always come back strong.

My second step was to add a background or a side feature so that it gives it a frame to the logo and not a free surroundings.  I decided to go with the frame of a TV going by that this company goes by advertising and magazines and websites so it's all to do with the media. By doing this i cut the image out of the image and placed the logo i created in the middle of the screen to show all attention should be sent for the name of the company. Having a background it gives the logo a boundary showing its a independent business allowing them to create anything they would like within reason.

My third and final step was to add a image to the screen as i couldn't leave it blank as of white space. By not wanting to add something more interesting and colourful than the logo and the name i decided to use a static screen as most will relate this with the start up of something.  As when you first switched the TV on it started statically so by my logo showing this it shows that we will grow bigger and bigger and become a lot more successful.

In conclusion i am happy with the final result but i will keep an eye on it just in case i want to edit any parts of it whatsoever which will allow me to improve how it looks or just to improve what it has to say behind it.

Magazine

This is the first part to my front cover and hasn't been massively developed.  The front is decorated with a rich green background, My main image and caption allowing me to work around the actual story.  By doing this it gives me a sense of direction on where i would like some things to be placed or positioned to give it the full impact.

This is another step to my magazine in which i discovered how i wanted my logo to be and how it would look on my actual magazine, Personally i think it really fits where it is placed as a large image it makes sure you know what this magazine is called. Also by doing this i added a mini tagline next to it which says "Try by Day, Score by Night" in which means no matter what time of day it is you always succeed if you try and we are always scoring.  The synopticity productions logo is also placed in the bottom right corner to show also who has helped fund this and allow this magazine to happen.

After adding my side stories on to my magazine it allowed me to advance to a whole new level maybe trying to attract another part of my audience who may be interested in the news that happens either locally or nationally and my magazine/show will provide this and allow people to be massively updated on how i did this. By showing the sponsor i added it advertises the product and being that a well known company has sponsored the show people will check it out because of that sponsor/advertising.

Website

On the top of every single one of my pages on my website this will be situated on the top to allow a sense of originality and understanding about the site they are on and what they should expect in the site. It includes the programmes logo and the sponsors logo with a link to their personal site also. By having this on my site it gives it professionalism.

By adding my sponsor onto the page this adds advertising rights and broadcasting. It also brings in the audience to read more about this big sponsor and why they have teamed up with our program to help out in the best way they can.

After adding Side stories and a Rolling gif my front page is complete and ready to be shown and placed. the front cover looks professional with many own photos and stories that i can work on to complete the whole system to give my website a good look.

I have included an embedded gallery with my own produced images that have been took personally, this allows me to show the sport at first hand and allowing a wider view on the sport by seeing action shots and still shots of the different teams and runs etc.

I decided to get the audience involved in the programme and system by asking if anyone wanted to apply for a position as a photographer for the show and update us with news and images of the most recent games that we may not of been able to attend. The hope is we get many replies and can grow a large working community for the programme.

Intentions

Name: Joshua Hewitt

Brief 2: Print and E-Media

What do you intend to produce?
I intend to produce a Local Rugby Magazine showing news about local area teams and also news about big rugby teams all over the world E.g. World cup, six nations.  This will allow Local players to find out how their rivals or there next games team are like and how they have progressed throughout the season!  This benefits everyone who plays or even just supports the teams and likes to be kept up to date with everything.  Also by adding a website people will be able to subscribe or email us about any questions either problems or advice this allows us to receive Feedback from our Buyers.

Genre:
Sports/Rugby

Generic Conventions:
The generic conventions of the magazine will be seen by the name of the magazine and by the frontal images this should give out the idea of what type genre it is straight away allowing the readers to decide whether they like the look of it and whether they think It will be the magazine from the. As my rugby magazine is named “TRY” this gives away a massive chunk from the puzzle, Secondly going by the image on my front page by a player or game or team it will link to a sport which will give people a lot more of an idea what it’s about. Also from this a lot of jargon will be used to link to all the players and supporters, seeing this may trigger something in them to relate to the text and want to read on in which starts to draw our audience in.  The majority of the features will be male dominated as it is known as a male sport and they dominate this feature, females can be viewed and do have teams around this genre but male is stereo typically viable.

Audience:
My audience will be Local players and supporters they will be targeted knowing they play for teams or go to places to support certain teams our magazine will first be asked to be sold at local clubs to see how they do and if they enjoy them, if this is successful we will extend our sales to local newsagents as well. This would soon progress all over the country focusing on all teams possible or just single out the teams who have had an amazing week or season and talk about them in that issue which will allow a sense of competition to try and get in the magazine as well
Aimed mainly at young to old players or supporters allowing an opening audience with space for it to progress and go further in the industry.  From the sites and magazines I have researched they are both pretty much mutual in the same fact it’s local teams and their own league, Making it all interesting to them and giving the players a sense of pride knowing they have so many supporters.

Institution:
Synopticity Productions is the institution for my product and is a lifestyle based Media Company which focuses on anything from food to culture to sports. From this I would try and lead it into many sponsorship's hopefully into some top branding companies, by the methods of product placement and premiership performances. This is all about lifestyle and how you need a hobby or activity for it to be part of one and allow it to be called a lifestyle of living this will relate to a strong niche group.

Influences:
I have many influences for this magazine, starting from my love for the sport to the point of watching international teams play. All of which give me great inspiration to create this magazine.  From playing the sport I have learnt many things from it, being from respect and discipline to being a good sportsman and a collaborative team player.  It may not be appealing to most people as it’s not a dominant sport but to all the people who do support it, it’s massive allowing it to have a greater atmosphere than any other sport could achieve.
My main influence for the magazine has come from the 2 magazines: “England Rugby” and “Rugby World” Both of these magazines are massive sellers in the world of rugby and hit all the information needed in one magazine which makes both their magazines unique in the fact that they both pack the same information but still sell as many as each other. One of my dreams for this magazine is to really get it up there with those 2 magazines.

Image/Lighting (Moving Image/Still):
Images will be involved in the magazine as well as in the website. Allowing images of good players or improved players to have some praise or even if we are available Video clips of the game.  The site will use all sorts of images still and moving just to add a mix of content, going from tackles to tries to fights basically to show the highlights.
·         Background
·         Imagery
·         Team images
·         Etc…

Use of sound:
My website may have some sound features added depending on if I can get rugby highlights or coaches’ feelings on the games this would be great but it is not a definite. Most likely we may have Voice commentaries but we may have video footage.  We will have special videos every month for different events. E.g.
·         Top try scorers
·         Top best plays
·         Top 5 tackles
This will allow a sense of change to the site and hopefully to the teams and players a spirit of competition.

Navigation:

The navigation of my site will have a similar layout with all the teams in that league placed at the top and click able so that you will be directly led to their page on the site, the name of the league and the sponsorship all this is the main part of my navigation as it gets across completely what this site will be about. Apart from that all I need is the navigation of all the other pages on the site that needs its own page to go to.  These will be found in the navigation bar. Each one will have a specific type of theme to it to make it noticeable. Going by my colour scheme of Green, black and white this will be easy to work with.

Interactivity:
My Website will be massively interactive going by a lot of things will be massively linked and used in the site so that everyone can be involved and interact around the site this will also make it much easier to navigate having pages upon pages linked together.  This helps allow the user a sense of freedom of roaming around and being able to see what they want to see.

Layout:
The layout for my magazine is going to be nice and easy to work around being I'm creating a front cover and a DPS (Double Page Spread)in which I will discuss main topics on the front so it draws the audience in and then the DPS will be one of these stories and explaining everything about it.  My front cover will have a dominate front image with some text at the bottom of it.  The colour scheme of this text will be the scheme of the teams colours which gives it a sense or ownership.  With the masthead at the top and the side stories at the side this will give a clear idea exactly what this magazine is about and what the topic of it exactly Is.
My DPS will be laid out like any other DPS I will use columns and drop caps and slugs as these are basic conventions for a magazine and are really needed to add the right effects and drawing ability about the story.  The story has to be interesting and have enough information behind it to be interesting and not repeatable this will keep the audience to carry on reading and allow them to get the information they need.

Costume:

The costume Changes depending on the team as each different has a different kit, which can switch from different colours to completely different styles this gives the team a sense of being unique and the only ones or just a sense of differentially.  This also allows helps the supporters know who has possession, who is winning, who just scored that try and which team is which. This is all important as they need to be doing what they can to help motivate the team into victory.

Brief Introduction

Brief 2
You work for Synopticity Productions, a production company specialising in lifestyle
programming. The company has had recent success with a cookery competition show and
making segments for inclusion within magazine programmes on television. Your company
wishes to capitalise on these recent successes and they are interested in generating ideas for
new programmes. They are keen to develop programmes in alternative lifestyle areas or to
support programming that takes a new approach to an already popular area.

The company sees the benefit of finding and appealing to a strong niche group as this can be
a potentially very loyal audience. In addition, productions should demonstrate how
sponsorship, product placement, merchandising or other commercial links could be
developed.

You have been asked to create examples of your lifestyle programming ideas.  You should
use your examples to show how lifestyle products can be used to promote one another across
the media platforms and how the lifestyle area could generate income through wider
commercial links.

Below are some potential lifestyle areas although a creative and original response to the brief
is encouraged.

• Food
• Fashion and/or Beauty
• Travel
• Interior Design
• A specific hobby or
• Another lifestyle area of your choice

Print
Create examples of print products related to the lifestyle area you have selected.  You should
consider how print could be used to raise interest in Synopticity Productions’ programming.

(ii) Create the front cover and at least two pages of a specialist magazine demonstrating an
understanding of design and conventions and a clear focus on the target audience.

This is the method i am using to do this coursework brief and part ii to it as a front cover and a double page spread will work really well together!

E-media
Create e-media pages related to your lifestyle topic.  You should show how e-media could be
used directly or indirectly to promote Synopticity Productions’ programming. You should
create approximately three pages.

(i)  Create pages from the lifestyle section of an existing magazine’s website to demonstrate how
your programme could be promoted in other media products.  Your pages should deal with
your lifestyle topic and include some aspect of promotion for your programme.  If the
magazine site you are creating the pages for does not have a specific ‘lifestyle’ section, you
may find it helpful to use the existing style of the site to influence the way you will present
information.  Your choice of magazine site should reflect an understanding of your target
audience.

This is also the method of coursework which will go along side my print data. an i have picked part i to do this as it asks us to create a website with 3 pages of data and research Which will aloow it to be explained and will engage the audience in a good attempt.

Research

Brief 2
This website is a big website for a rugby audience as it has all the recent news and highlights which engage the audience in the sport...by doing this they made a premiership with national teams to keep the sport alive and these websites broadcasts all that information about what is happening or what has happened.
Aviva is the main sponsor for this sport/premiership and makes it such a big event for all people and families as it is a sport everyone can enjoy it.
The codes and conventions all go well with the website which includes certain features that draw mainly men in as this is the main audience who play and watch the sport.
The website likes leaderboards, statistics and tables this allows us to sort the information out better and realise what is happening. This draws in the target audience and what they are looking for which gets the information across more easily. The website also likes to use fixtures and links to all the teams sites and information about each one with team players and key players to the club with the stat of each person.
The font used on the website is very basic as it does not need to be fancy but just needs to be eligible to read. This means it is hosted towards mature people and not towards an audience who needs drawing towards the story.
This Genre is obviously Sport as rugby is a played and watched sport in the UK and other countries so this is a big market to enter if the interest for the sport continues to increases or steadily moves along the market.
The layout of the website is much organised as the website's Logo is placed in the top left and the main information is placed in the centre so that people can understand this is the main section of the website and below the secondary news and updates which is also very important for the viewer to also see.

This shows the table and statistics of players and teams this will allow the audience to keep up to date with all the updated fixtures and events, they will also be able to keep up with their favourite players and see how they are doing this season compared to last season or a few years in the past. With the table it allows them to see how far in front/behind they are with their rivals and how they will have to do in the next game to win or strategically defend.
The layout of the statistics is used very well as they have a like flip card effect as on the card it tells you the statistic and when you hover over the card it reveals the player or team This is effective and keeps the audience coming back to check the updated results for the teams/players.
The main colour of the website is yellow as Aviva is represented its insurance company under that and because of that they have decided to stay the same on the website to also promote their other company, this will push their company higher up and gives them the opportunities to receive investments from other places to boost the premiership and the insurance company

The website also has News! Section which even if you missed the game or couldn't watch two at once well this site allows you to catch up on written news and visual highlights. This makes it easier for the viewers of the site to cycle through the pages. This is effective as it allows news to be found out and spread across as if it was a world cup event but instead a serious premiership. The layout of this section of the website is very similar to the home page being a slide story panel is first shown on the top of the site flipping through the main stories that are available allowing one to catch your eye. Through this method it allows you to choose which story you wish to read more about and then from there you can move onto other stories leading in from that story. The colours till stay the same as the Aviva and the sponsorship still keeping the theme this helps also still get across who supports the league and who keeps this site updated.

The navigation bar allows the viewer to cycle through the site efficiently and effectively getting to the parts of the site that really interest them the most. This navigation bar gives the viewer a wide selection to choose from and what they may want to look at. This will save them a lot of time instead of surfing through every section to try and find the segment they want.
Also a great aspect of the site is that all the text in the bar is hyperlinked and will take you to your desired location. This allows you to see the most recent info on that specific section and with the sub navigation page allows them to cycle through the page as it is making it better to see precise details.

The results table is an essential feature to a site that dedicates its info to a premiership, so having a fully interactive results board really helps as they can compare other scores and see how their team is doing and when the next big games will be taking place, allowing them to look out for them or when to be ready to go support. It gives a sense of news as it is constantly updating and giving news on what has happened in that game and who played well or which team played better.

This site shows a strong layout of the magazine and What the sport is, the colours Black and red make the text stand out massively against a dark background. The news on the main page help get the points across in what has happened in the "Rugby World" Which goes with the magazines name also by going on as the best selling magazine helps show that it is relate-able around the year.  The layout of the site is neat and easy to follow which allows all sorts of viewers to understand what is happening. Another feature about the site is that they allow a subscription button allowing you to subscribe for the magazine monthly or weekly at a set amount for each magazine!
The website has many links to new pages allowing you to cycle through the site faster and easier.  It also has a forum where players and supporters can add their ideas or their views on certain features allowing them to get involved in everything nthat is happening and belong to a community.
Print!

The Layout of the magazine is set out simply, all items in visible places well set out with no collisions with all the codes and conventions. At the top we have the mast head and its little slogan or quote, with this the design of the title and the Font and colour of it is used very effectively as the magazine is called "ENGLAND Rugby". The word England takes over the top of the page in big white bold letters to show the area in which it is concentrating on and then underneath from that it places rugby in small but red to make it stand out against the white the reason they did this is because the colours of the rugby kit and squad is white and Red so using these colours effectively together shows understanding of the area in which they are trying to get across. The main image is central which shows it is the main centre of attention and that will be the main story in which the magazine in this issue will put the most interest on as it being the most important or story worthy. We kind of get an idea the main story is a speech as of the Sub-heading " Steve Borthwick The Skipper Speaks" this tells us it’s something the player has said himself and not a story built around the actions he’s done but more the actions of what he has said. Alongside this story we also see some small side stories in which will have more information about different players from the rugby team or fixtures and results for the team recently. A banner is also used on the front page to show another story about an England player...all of the information on the front page draws people in with all the stories available to read.

The layout of the magazine is set out in like a frame type of style, with the image in the middle and the other items around it making it look as if a frame to the main image. At the top we have the name of the magazine "RUBGY WORLD" with its little tagline "The world's best-selling Rugby magazine" this gives the magazine a sense of status when compared with any other magazine. The magazine name RUGBY WORLD means it’s all about one sport and directs it to an international audience as it’s all over the world not just in one place of the world explaining every country and how each one is doing or vital news about certain teams. The main image is of Manu Tuilagi explained as "The Chosen One" showing that he’s appreciated and known for his play in rugby and what he does and who he plays for. The chosen one is normally a name given to someone who will impact the world or be the saviour of it, from this i think they called him the chosen one as he will be their ticket to winning the world cup and impacting the whole of our nation into full grown celebration. The masthead and the image all round make the T-figure layout which make it more effective for the centre of the magazine and to get across who is the main story and what they are representing. The other side stories are placed at the top of the page but under the masthead to give it like a wing effect, showing that they are not the main story but some small ones on the side and how important the main one is to the smaller ones. This magazine is effective by getting its stories across and showing the main image properly and as a strong position. The position of the image gives it a real scare as he's looking directly at the reader and drawing them in to read about the story.

The masthead is used well as the Main title is bold and in place allowing everyone to see clearly the magazine brand and what exactly the magazine is all about. The slogan "The world's best-selling rugby magazine" sets an image across saying it's read worldwide and known to all rugby fans and is a must buy if you are a big rugby find and want to learn the most recent news and fixtures.

This DPS (Double Page Spread) is concentrated on one player and a story about him and his career or something that has affected his rugby career. The side quote "I have only myself to blame" tells us that he has done something wrong and regrets it, This article will tell us the whole story and what has happened allowing us to really understand what has happened. The image used for the article is an in-game image but as if he is walking off the pitch ashamed with himself which will give the article a sense of similarity. We get a sense of embarrassment for him and sadness seeing how he walks off the pitch ashamed of himself of what he has done, He may have had a fight and now has been red-carded or his team lost and it was his fault for letting that losing try through. A lot can be seen from the DPS the style of story and the image all have a message to put across. The text is placed on the right hand side and not placed all the across the page allowing people to see the image better and get a better understanding on what is happening allowing us to read the story but also see what his reaction was like to what had happened giving us a parallel effect. As the text relates to the image.

The layout of this double page spread is massive as it is covered in information and one main image and a side image of one man and his team, Most methods are used for example used in the DPS are some pull quotes used by the man or people who are talking about him this could be public, coach or even the other players who are giving this man praise. The text is used in columns To give it a sense of direction to show the structure of the page and how effective this will be to get the point across about this man recovering from his bad last season or game and now he's back to winning. The images send their purpose across instantly with the fact of celebration and the joy on all his teams face shows that they have won and with his help they can win a lot more! The title "Connacht WILL return to Winning ways" Showing he doesn’t have a choice it is going to happen, it is natural that he will succeed! The layout of the image is used effectively as the topic being the first thing you see them the text telling you what has happened!

  •  Large use of Statistics e.g. results and tables
  •  colourful vibrant simple colour schemes
  • Big bold fonts
  • Highlights e.g. action images or videos
  • interactive e.g. links social websites/intergrations
